Who are we?

Adinkra Films is a company solely focused on rebuilding the perspective of Black cinema. Black films are a distinct minority amongst the many films that are released in the UK; we plan on changing that completely and providing more awareness about them. The impossible has become possible with Barack Obama so what is there we can not do? The production of these films and documentaries are full of hard work and dedication; not to mention money, and knowing that they didn’t get a chance to gain recognition but instead, go straight onto DVD is where we come in.

What we do

What we aim to achieve is work with independent black producers and directors and give them a platform to showcase their work, as well as acknowledging black film and documentaries all over the world. Overall, our goal is to reach out to the wider audience, and continue the exposure and promotion of Black films in the UK.

We annually screen films and documentaries that have failed to gain recognition when released in the cinema, or that have never managed to get onto the silver screen in the UK. The reason for this is so that viewers get that cinematic experience that mainstream films always manage, and for those who happened to see the films already, they get a chance at a second look, sometimes with a Q&A session.
